How To Make White Barbecue Sauce | Grillaholics

white sauce recipe

It’s no secret that I love barbecue.  When people ask me why I love it so much, I honestly never know where to start, but one of the best things about barbecue has to be its regional variants.  From the sauce-filled flavors of Kansas City, to the smoky flavors of Tennessee, barbecue is a little bit different depending on where you are in the United States, and that makes traveling as a Grillaholic that much more exciting.

Perhaps one of the most unique of these regional variants comes from Northern Alabama.  Here, the sweet and smoky flavors of traditional tomato-based barbecue sauces are traded out for a mayonnaise-based white barbecue sauce with a completely unique flavor from much of the barbecue across the country.

Luckily, you don’t have to be in Northern Alabama to enjoy the delicious flavor that white barbecue sauce brings to your food.  Whether you’ve never tried white barbecue sauce before, or you just want to be able to make it for yourself at home, our Grillaholics approved method will teach you how to make homemade white barbecue sauce in just a few minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar

Steps

  1. Simply mix all of your ingredients together in a bowl. It’s really that easy.
Optional: Place in refrigerator overnight for a thicker sauce.

This sauce is not only delicious, it’s multipurpose as well.  Use white barbecue sauce to baste chicken, pork, fish, or ribs as they cook, as a dipping sauce, or even as a drizzle for anything that needs a little extra flavor.  The sauce will last for about 1 week refrigerated, but trust us, you will use all of this way before its expiration date.

We hope this recipe makes its way into your grilling repertoire.  If you're interested in other homemade sauces, make sure to check out this honey barbecue recipe that is guaranteed to impress.
