Hey there, Grillaholics!
If you’re reading this, chances are you love to grill. And that’s great - so do we! It’s in our name…. We’re addicted to the stuff.
We love the feeling of power that comes with manning a grill. You're in complete control of the roaring flame. The smell of searing meat fills the air. Then, the reward of a perfectly grilled meal.
But, to quote Spider Man’s Uncle Ben: “With great power comes great responsibility.”
That’s why we created these easy to follow guidelines to help you grill more safely. ‘Cuz, let’s face it. Nobody -- even the most die-hard Pitmaster, wants to sacrifice their or their family’s well-being to the grill.
Safe grilling!
Before You Grill:
1. Make sure your grill is placed outside and not near any structures [preferred radius is 10’ from any structure - especially on windy day]
2. Do not, under any circumstances, light your grill indoors. Only light your grill with the lid open so air can circulate properly
3. Ensure your grill is on a flat and level surface
3a. [Gas Grill] Check for any propane or fuel leaks
Pro Tip: This can be done by applying a light soap and water solution to the hose and then turning on the gas. If there is a propane leak, the solution will bubble.
3b. [Charcoal Grill] Light with an extended lighter, long match or, most preferably, a charcoal chimney starter
4. Check to see that your grill grates and burners are free of oil or grease
5. Don’t wear loose-fitting clothing
Cool - Got those things in check?
Now we can start cooking with fire! Make sure to follow the below guidelines to ensure your grilling experience is a good one. Let’s light ‘em up!
While Cooking/Grilling:
So you’ve gotten this far. Congrats!
But - we’re still not quite finished.
Just follow these remaining tips to make sure your grill is safe, prepped and ready for your next grilling session.
After Cooking/Grilling:
Did you make it?
Heck yeah! That’s what we like to hear.
While these steps may seem like common sense, you may also be surprised to hear that upwards of 4,000 people a year are sent to the Emergency room due to grilling related injuries.
We tend to like those in our little grilling community, and wish everyone a safe and fun grilling experience. So stay safe out there friends.
Until next time - Happy Grilling!
